The Venue | Race & Religious

"The property is a relic of an older Louisiana, of which few glimmers remain. Originally within a row of three, the Greek-revival row-house at 510 Race St, were built in 1836. A row of Creole cottages followed in 1843, of which 1510 Religious Street remains. Constructed as tenements for middle class families, the history of the homes is undiluted and common to the city. Located in the 500 block of the riverfront, the houses were built with bricks of Mississippi River clay, baked along Tchoupitoulas Street, a former Indian trail. Diaries and letters from the period tell of a neighborhood of butchers and railroad families, drunken sailors and Creole orphans. Race Street then ended in a racetrack and Orange Street is the namesake of an orange grove, cultivated by Ursuline nuns."

Things to do in NOLA

If you don't already know, New Orleans is a place full of culture. The arts, music and food scene is one of a kind and is what makes New Orleans...New Orleans.  I've listed below a number of things to do while in NOLA. There's also a few festivals going on the weekend of the wedding so if you had doubts about not having anything to do (silly you!) then fear NO MORE.

1. French quarter. That's a given. Just walk around and you'll enjoy the sites. Check out the French Market, Jackson Square, St. Louis Cathedral... There's an endless amount of entertainment. You can also visit this website for more info http://www.neworleansonline.com/.

2. While in the French Quarter, go to Cafe du Monde. They'll most likely be a ridiculous line but it's worth it! TRUST ME.
3. Go to Bourbon Street. You can't go to New Orleans and not go here. While you're walking it get a daiquiri or a drink called a Hand Grenade. Yes, you can walk outside with a drink!

4. A good burger is at the very end of bourbon at a place called Port A Call. Get a burger with a loaded baked potato and have a signature drink. Most people love The Hurricane.

5. After taking in Bourbon Street you have to go to the "locals Bourbon Street", Frenchman Street. A two-block-long entertainment district where, on any given night of the week you can hear live sounds and a wide variety of music as only New Orleans musicians can perform. It is, conveniently, only steps away from the French Quarter.

6. Magazine Street. There's great cafes, critically-acclaimed restaurants, quaint
vintage shops and boutique-style galleries outlining this area. Super artsy and a
guaranteed good time.

 7. Take the street car down St. Charles. Just the best thing ever. Hop off and grab some Roman candy. It's a New Orleans staple that's been around since 1915. Just look for this...

It's usually around St. Charles and Napoleon St

FESTIVALS THE WEEKEND OF OCTOBER 12:

The New Orleans Film Festival - October 10 - 17

"As a 24-year veteran on the regional film festival circuit, the New Orleans Film Festival (NOFF) has firmly established itself as one of the most reputable in the country. Born in a city known for its eclecticism and artistic vibrance, NOFF seeks out bold and passionate storytellers. With top-notch programming in one of the world’s most cinematic cities, NOFF serves up a dose of southern hospitality that’s hard to beat."

The Louisiana Seafood Festival - October 11 - 13
